email posting to groups.io

Jonesy W3DHJ

I cannot post via email to nmvhf@groups.io  -- I could in the past.
I tried several pre-contest schedule postings and the all came back:

Subject: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

X-Postfix-Sender: rfc822; mailserver@...
Arrival-Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2019 20:28:48 +0000 (UTC)

Final-Recipient: rfc822; nmvhf@groups.io
Original-Recipient: rfc822;nmvhf@groups.io
Action: failed
Status: 4.4.1
Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; connect to lb01.groups.io[45.79.81.153]:25:
    Operation timed out

I _AM_ receiving all the posts of others, and in reading those
"reflected" email headers, I believe they are (successfully) posting by email.

Anybody else with this problem?
Any suggestions?

It's a PITA to have to use the browser UI....

Jonesy,

The email address that you subscribed with is mailserver@....  If you don't use that address when replying, the server will reject the message.  It is setup this way to prevent robots from spamming the list.

.... and that's how I send the email:

Hi Jonesy,

Just following up to verify your connection and access to NMVHF has been solved. Pse confirm.

Alas, no.
I sent a very detailed problem report to support@groups.io.
First from my "usual" email server, and it failed the same way.
Then I dug out my old, dusty gmail userid and password and
sent the email to support@groups.io via that route.
That was last Saturday, and I received a reply:
"Your request (9428) has been received and is being reviewed by our support staff."
... and I've heard nothing since.

Ergo, I reply here via the (clunky) browser route.

I see no interest on their side in fixing this.
Both my ISP and I have eliminated everything
between my VPS and their servers.
I'll just move on with my life -- without groups.io.
I'll still be signed up for the NMVHF --
it'll just be read-only --
unless I'm motivated enough to log on through the clunky browser gui.

Jonesy,

There's a new system that's taken most everyone off groups io anyway.  It's called slack channel.  You can find the NMVHF Society at

There's also may other VHF channels you'll be interested in.  Check it out.

Many tens, if not hundreds, of thousands, of us use groups.io every day without problem.  Many groups have abandoned Yahoo for groups.io.  It's just another useful tool that is worth learning.  All IT problems have a solution.  The big challenge is determining the actual problem and thus the solution.

Obviously, you've broken some of the code since you were able to send this message.  Good luck!

Does anyone from the club actually use the dedicated Slack channel ?

Slack is good for real-time interaction but there is no archiving of messages beyond a certain point and, the bad part, you actually have to be monitoring (on-line) to see what's going on.  At least messaging sites like .io send you emails of everything.  Yes, I know millennials don't 'do' email anymore, which is why Slack has sprung into being.  But, why would they be anymore right about messaging then they are about anything else, 'hmmm ?

Not to be a smart ass, but are there any millennials in NMVHF? I  hope so, but I suspect not.

I've been using Slack-VHF Chat while chasing rover and MS Qs. Jay is right, it only retains a limited period of previous posts. It's useful for coordinating activity but doesn't replace a groups outlet for archiving information or having a Files area. It also has a lot of extraneous posts and can wander off track at times.

I was using it this Es season to let others know (if they cared) what was being seen by this modest station on ^/2 meters
