CQ VHF and contest rule
CQ WW VHF says: "Participation is limited to club members residing
within a 250 mile radius circle from the center of club area." Research shows "Flight distance from Albuquerque to Pueblo (Albuquerque International Sunport – Pueblo Memorial Airport) is 253 miles." I live 3-plus miles south of the PUB airport. And, note: CQ WW VHF does say "residing"! Therefore I _reside_ less than 249 miles from the ABQ airport. However I obviously do not rover where I reside. I'll be /ROVER around 25 miles south of the airport _AND_ about 55 miles east ( +/- 5 miles around 38°N, 104°W ) which probably is sometimes < 250 miles and other times > 250 miles distant. Just where has the "... center of club area" been defined by the NMVHF? In the past I have added the NMVHF Club on my CQ WW VHF contest entries. But, maybe I've been in error? Curious I am: What would a 5-Land rover do if they started at their club center in Brownsville, Texas and rovered all the way to International Falls, Minnesota? Jonesy - The ABQ airport is a good club center at this point. That should cover pretty much everyone in NM, you, the El Paso group, and W9RM, I think. If that is not adequate, I can adjust it. - DUffey KK6MC

I think for CQ WW VHF as long as part of the rove is within club territory, the entire score counts. That is not the way it is for ARRL contest though. I will check the rules. - Duffey KK6MC

Although I dunno how you put a summary sheet into Cabrillo format. HI!HI! The CQ rules have always seemed simple - yet vague at the margins. Jonesy |

I have done that in the past, identifying which QSOs were outside the club territory in the “Soapbox” section of the header. I think it worked, but it is an awkward way to do things. - Duffey KK6MC

If I recall correctly, there is no circle for ARRL contests. The club is set up as a regional entity, encompassing only the state of NM. I still send in logs crediting NMVHFS though :) -W9RM Keith Morehouse via Moto G6 On Wed, 13 Jul 2022, James Duffey wrote: |

Keith - Yes, that is true, I got confused with the ARRL 222 and up contest, for which one must define a circle. Sorry. The one I did for that was a real chore to get everyone in the circle, but it worked in the end. Good luck in the contest; I wish I could join you. - Duffey KK6MC

Jonesy - The ABQ airport is a good club center at this point. ThatThanks! I just did a lat/lon to lat/lon distance check using an online web page. 35.0844° N, 106.6504° W (ABQ airport) -to - 38.0000° N, 104.0000° W (corner DM77,78,87,88) is 249 statute miles ("rounded to the nearest unit"). So, I'm gonna (continue to) call me a /rover member of the NMVHF Group in the CQ WW VHF. My DM77 contacts would for sure be within 250 miles. DM88 probably not, but what the hell. (The junction of I-25 and I-40 would completely cover me.) And, Like Keith mentioned, I'll just do it for the ARRL VHF as well.
