Contest eligibility list

James Duffey

We are required to submit a list of eligible entrants for ARRL contests. All eligible members must reside in the NM ARRL section, so your 6 digit grid square is used for that verification. I submitted the following January 2019 VHF Contest eligibility list for the NMVHF Society. When you submit a log, and please do, no matter what your level of participation, please put New Mexico VHF Society on the club line. If there are errors or omissions in the list, let me know. - Duffey

Duffy,

Need to add Art Aragon KC5EFM and Mike W0PD (if he fits in your club diameter) He's east of El Paso. We met him at Floyd's place when we visited and he applied for membership. You might ask Arne if Mike W0PD have been "processed or vetted" or whatever he calls it. I provided background info on Mike several weeks ago.  He's not on the website member list. It's been at least 30 days...... rant rant

In Art's case, he intends to participate and will be on 10 GHz from the 10k Trailhead if he can get there. BTW K5WO may be on 10 GHz as well.  We checked his rig here yesterday.  Worked OK after several years of storage.

Hope this snowstorm doesn't complicate your rove.  There's 3" new here.

Let me know when it's time to approve the list on the ARRL site.

For contest purposes, do we not define our club territory (and report to ARRL) as a circle from a designated center and not by ARRL Section?

Thanks, Bob N5EPA

8.4.2. Medium
  1. 8.4.2.1. Club submits 50 or fewer entries and does not qualify under the local club criteria.
  2. 8.4.2.2. One station can submit two entries--one on CW and one on Phone in the November Sweepstakes and the DX Contest.
  3. 8.4.2.3. The club territory is either defined by:
    1. 8.4.2.3.1. A 175-mile (282-kilometer) circle from a designated center; or;
    2. 8.4.2.3.2. An ARRL-section.
  4. 8.4.2.4. All stations must be located and all operators must reside within the designated club territory.
  5. 8.4.2.5. All eligible members must be "members in good standing" according to the rules and requirements of the club.
  6. 8.4.2.6. Eligible members that operate stations outside the club territory may not compete in the club competition, except as provided in rule 8.6.

Clubs can decide which criteria they want to use. The center of the circle is at the discretion of the club, and can be changed. It all comes down to "who gets included, and who gets left out based on where the center is located".

I have chosen the section as the territory because it includes all of the NM members and I think most of our members. It excludes the El Paso guys, which is unfortunate as they are enthusiastic and active.

The CQ WW VHF contest has slightly different criteria, which is a larger circle, and I can define a terrritory which includes, but just barely, all of the active NM VHF Contesters, El Paso, Jonesy, and W9RM in Olathe CO. It is not an easy job though.

As Steve says, it is a matter of who gets included and who gets left out and to me as we are the NM VHF society, it seems reasonable to have the NM section as the territory. It is not an easy decision to make and I am open to defining a new territory if a significant motive can be found for it. But I would like some help in defining what that territory is and explanations to the people who might be excluded. - Duffey

8.4.2. *Medium*
1. 8.4.2.1. Club submits 50 or fewer entries and does not qualify under the
local club criteria.
2. 8.4.2.2. One station can submit two entries--one on CW and one on Phone in
the November Sweepstakes and the DX Contest.
3. 8.4.2.3. The club territory is either defined by:
1. 8.4.2.3.1. A 175-mile (282-kilometer) circle from a designated center; or;
2. 8.4.2.3.2. An ARRL-section.
4. 8.4.2.4. All stations must be located and all operators must reside within
the designated club territory.
5. 8.4.2.5. All eligible members must be "members in good standing" according
to the rules and requirements of the club.
6. 8.4.2.6. Eligible members that operate stations outside the club territory
may not compete in the club competition, except as provided in rule 8.6.

OK Bill, will add Art. Mike, W0PD and the El Paso guys are not in NM section, so they can’t contribute. Bummer.

Duffy,
Need to add Art Aragon KC5EFM and Mike W0PD (if he fits in your club
diameter) He's east of El Paso. We met him at Floyd's place when we visited
and he applied for membership. You might ask Arne if Mike W0PD have been
"processed or vetted" or whatever he calls it. I provided background info on
Mike several weeks ago. He's not on the website member list. It's been at
least 30 days...... rant rant
In Art's case, he intends to participate and will be on 10 GHz from the 10k
Trailhead if he can get there. BTW K5WO may be on 10 GHz as well. We
checked his rig here yesterday. Worked OK after several years of storage.
Hope this snowstorm doesn't complicate your rove. There's 3" new here.
Let me know when it's time to approve the list on the ARRL site.

We are required to submit a list of eligible entrants for ARRL contests.
All eligible members must reside in the NM ARRL section, so your 6 digit
grid square is used for that verification. I submitted the following
January 2019 VHF Contest eligibility list for the NMVHF Society. When
you submit a log, and please do, no matter what your level of
participation, please put New Mexico VHF Society on the club line. If
there are errors or omissions in the list, let me know. - Duffey

I did get confused with the more generous CQ WW club competition rules that expand the club territory, such as what applied in the July 2018 CW WW VHF Contest.

Thanks for the clarifications.
