No HF here. I monitored 50.130 for most of the day as I did work
around the house. I had a single ssb QSO with NM5WB in Rio Rancho.
He called CQ on that frequency about once per hour without any more
contacts as far as I could tell. In the early evening I asked him
what he had managed on 6m. Besides me, he worked AI5I on 50.125. I
had the beam pointed at Arizona. Mike WB2FKO

Snowing a bit here but not bad and some ice. If weather gets worse as we travel north, I will change my route and go south, so my route may change from what I published. Look at APRS.fi for my location.
I think that the worst of the weather will be gone by the time we get further north, but one never knows. - Duffey

Re: N5SJ/M IN NM QSO PARTY
N5SJ/M itinerary - NM QSO Party
Here is our itinerary for the NM QSO Party Saturday. Mike N5SJ will operate while Ken, KG5IDN will drive the Cool Bus. If propagation is good, you should be able to find me pretty much anytime around the suggested frequencies. I will also have APRS so you can track our progress. This will be a kind of a test for the new antennas. Using the Reverse Beacon Network we compared the verticals to a 40 meter dipole up 35' and were pretty close, amazing ourselves. We will see what the real world has to say about that. Please do not text or call during the contest about arranging QSOes or frequencies as that is forbidden in the rules. There is a suggestion in the rules about NM stations going to the suggested operating frequencies at the top of the hour to work other NM stations, and I will try to do that.
We will operate mainly 40M CW and SSB and 20M CW and SSB.
It easy for us to get behind or ahead of schedule, so don’t hold me to this exact schedule, but we will try as best as we can.

We are looking for hams within each and every one of New Mexico's 33 counties to participate in the 2019 New Mexico QSO Party, whether for just a few convenient hours or for the entire 12 hour period.
This is a super event for new and experienced hams alike. Operate from the comfort of your home, or combine forces with hams in your club as a club activity. Invite a group of friends to your shack. Hit the road as a mobile station and activate multiple counties which create much needed -- and appreciated -- point multipliers for everyone who participates in the QSO Party. ATTENTION HAM CLUBS: The New Mexico QSO Party is a superb club-building activity, and there are two special awards available just for clubs. The first is a plaque that will be awarded to the New Mexico club with the highest aggregate score submitted by its members. Another plaque will be awarded to the New Mexico Club whose members activate the highest aggregate number of New Mexico counties around the state. Party is a superb club-building activity,
and there are two special awards available
just for clubs. The first is a plaque
that will be awarded to the New Mexico
club with the highest aggregate score
submitted by its members. Another plaque
will be awarded to the New Mexico Club
whose members activate the highest
aggregate number of New Mexico counties
around the state. It doesn't matter what
operating category your members
participate in, or for how long; each
entrant just needs to clearly mark their
club name in their individual logs and
your club will be automatically
entered. Complete details in the New
Mexico QSO Party rules.
This year's event is hosted by the
Valencia County Amateur Radio Association.
Great-looking plaques will be awarded and
participation certificates will be
available for those desiring one.
Complete details, rules, prize
information, and more can be found on the
New Mexico QSO Party website at www.NewMexicoQSOParty.org
Are you planning to get on
the air and operate from your home
shack, with friends, alongside your club
at its club station, mobile, or
portable? Even if tentative at this
point, please visit www.NewMexicoQSOParty.org and
let us know what county (or counties)
you plan to operate from so we can list
you on the NM QSO Party website’s
activation table and interactive map.
Our goal is to have as many hams as
possible operating from all
of New Mexico counties during the event.
Please help spread the word about the 2019
New Mexico QSO Party. With your help we
look forward to all 33 counties being
activated this year. See you on the air

Re: New Mexico QSO Party -- Next Saturday!
Hi Mike —
Yes, that is correct. Name + County/State/Province/DX Entity. Using the name within the exchange has been to do something a bit different, even a bit more personable to many, than the nearly always constant “59” or “5NN” that’s used in other events.
All of the logging software out there that supports NMQP is expecting the exchange format above. We plan to look into how FT8 could fit into the event in the future.

Here is my itinerary for the NM QSO Party. I will have a driver, so if propagation is good, you should be able to find me pretty much anytime around the suggested frequencies. I will also have APRS so you can track my progress, but no guarantee as to coverage as some of the route is through remote and lightly populated areas. Please do not text or call during the contest about arranging QSOes or frequencies as that is forbidden in the rules. There is a suggestion in the rules about NM stations going to the suggested operating frequencies at the top of the hour to work other NM stations, and I will try to do that.
I will operate mainly 40CW and 20M CW and phone. The antenna is a bit narrow banded to operate 40 phone with good results, but I can try low in the band, if you want to try a qso. I had marginal luck with that in the OK QSO party.
It easy for me to get behind or ahead of schedule, so don’t hold me to this exact schedule, but I will try as best as I can.

Thanks. We need the reminder. I use a lift with a second person around. I try to get the helper to use the lift and I direct from the ground, but not always. Rents for about $300 a weekend. I’m too old to climb and hope I’m too young to die. Mike, n5sj

Sorry to hear this news.
Another accident similar to W0AIH.? It too could have been prevented.
If you are only climbing with a belt these days, you might want to reconsider.? Get yourself a new belt and fall arrest harness or hire a professional.? None of us are getting younger. **************************** Yes - throw away the old waistband climbing belt or keep it just for hanging off the bottom section. The evolution of the tower climbing industry over the last decade has made PROPER tower climbing equipment affordable to anyone who can afford a tower. 10-15 years ago, the tower climbing "industry" was a disaster, with 'gypsy' gangs of young men roving the country, living in their trucks and working for anyone with a erection contract, without much training. Some of their practices were horrific ! Yes, there were exceptions, but the majority were untrained and unafraid - the oil field roughnecks of the communications world. So many people were being killed in accidents that OSHA stepped in and told the "industry" they needed to clean it up or they (OSHA) would clean it for them, along with copious red tape and regulations. So, very quickly, the movers and shakers of the industry, mostly those with legitimate businesses (I.E. businesses with safety procedures and employment standards), founded a national association (NATE - National Association of Tower Erectors) and proceeded to mostly clean up their industry. They published guidelines and best practice procedures, educated those that could be educated. and developed or promoted proper GEAR for different climbing tasks and That gear is available from a wide base of suppliers and is inexpensive for what it does (saving your life while making climbing easier). Last I checked, one could buy a complete multi-point, fall arrest harness with positioning and stabilizing belts for a little over $400. You could option this up with accessories like self-rescue rope packs, cold weather gear, ect. If you still climb with a old-fashion linesman belt and positioning strap, stop. We're not getting younger and the towers and beams always seem to get taller and heavier. If you slip, or have a medical problem and loose consciousness or grip while up the tower, a linesman belt will likely invert you from your tie-off point and, unless you are found and rescued quickly, you will linger for a long time before succumbing.
