Can confirm that each workspace requires separate login.  There is a very active slack workspace that has been setup for VHF weak signal with several topical channels.  You can get access here:

Check Your Guylines/anchors

KC7QY

A quick reminder to check these out. I did some antenna work before the test last week. Had to install the anchor (a very large spike) for one of the guys. Found the mast and all three VHF antennas on the ground yesterday. The anchor that had served admirably for years was pulled out of the ground. Wind was nowhere as strong as we have had this spring. Fortunately no major damage, 6M driven is a little bent, and back on the air this afternoon.

Actually W5PR won the battle here quite handily. PR now owes me a set of headphones (HiHI). Worked them quickly and could barely hear QE. Got QE about a half hour later.

Thanks to the Sunday evening Es, I had the best contest here in several years. Having just returned from a 7 week/7000 mile road trip I decided to take it easy and just do a limited rove with the easy DM64/DM65/DM74/DM75 Moriarty convergence the first day and a more ambitious westerly rove the second day if I felt up to it, which I did. I did not operate in motion as I didn’t even try to convince Ginger to come along.

The contest started with a brief, two QSO, Es opening, but it was mostly locals the first day, but they were plentiful and I ended the day a bit better than I expected for a no Es contest. Made a couple of nice long haul QSOes though, several with K5LA in El Paso and W9RM up in Olathe CO. Particularly nice were the SSB QSOs with Keith from DM74. It was encouraging to hear all the local activity, especially on the higher bands and I was encouraged to hear two new rovers, W0AMT/r and WA6BJH/r. AA5PR was also out, but I don’t think we connected.

I felt OK the second day, so I set off for the more ambitious westerly route
consisting of DM54/DM64/DM55/DM56/DM66. The westerly route gave me a chance to work N1AV and WA7XX in AZ which was nice. The day started pretty much like the first day, although there was a small Es opening in the morning, but I think I missed most of it while in motion and trying to connect with the AZ guys.

I was using APRS, and my map from Sunday is attached.

The contest was really made for me on Sunday evening when 6M opened to everywhere and I was in DM66, a rather rare grid in the contest. I had 130 6M QSOs the last hour and a half and a max hour in that time span with 102 QSOs. I was about 3 hours from home in DM66, so I pulled up stakes and left with 45 minutes left in the contest, but the band appeared to be dying with few responses to my CQs and no new stations on the band. And the prospect of a three hour drive home along NM550 seemed daunting.

AA5PR June contest

John Klem

Yes, Saturday was grim, especially in DM83.  Wickedly hot and windy.  I heard a total of 3 NM stations:  K5AM (sometimes strong); WB2FKO (a couple weak decodes); and AI5I, God bless him, who somehow manages to hear me wherever I have been.  And I was trying both 6 and 2; FT8, SSB, and CW.  A total of 11 QSOs for the entire contest day, plus a couple of pre-contest meteor scatter contacts with W9RM.

Things definitely turned around on Sunday.  There was a good opening in the morning from DM73 to EN and EM grids, from around 1500 until at least 1800Z, when I felt I was getting a bit too much screen time and decided to move on.  DM74 was pretty much a repeat of DM73, with the welcome addition of some local contacts, including a few on 2 and 432.  I made a number of SSB contacts, but the large majority were FT8 because that's what worked for me.

Perhaps my biggest motivation to go roving is to escape the shadow of the Sandias, which severely obstruct my horizon at home for azimuths from 0 to 180 degrees. So this contest, with openings to grids I can rarely work, was a real treat.

I believe I have so far added at least one digit to my score in each VHF contest, but this seems unlikely to continue.  My computer tells me 157 total QSO points, 74 total multipliers, total score 11,618.

John, AA5PR

Boo Hoo

Bob Norton

Pass the tissues...

June 2019 ARRL VHF contest a bust for me.

While perhaps not as exciting as Duffey's May-June road-trip, I finished a 10 day approximately 3500 mile road-trip Thursday PM. Then, did 3 hours of hard labor Saturday morning before the start of the contest. Pooped, indeed.

A majority of the road trip at, below, or close to sea level. 106 degrees the last evening (Laughlin, NV/Bullhead City, AZ) before some relief in northern Arizona and finally at home near 7000 feet.

Then, sometime Sat PM before a first QSO, the tailtwister controlling all of my VHF/UHF antennae decides to go rogue. Parks itself due south and would not budge in spite of frantic flipping the control switches. Meter stuck full clockwise at S. Not much interest to work the contest parked due south, so I thew in the towel. Still stuck to the south Sunday.

Monday morning, I turn on the rotor control. It now reads full counterclockwise on S. I feather the control and the meter jumps hither and fro, but the antenna now moves in a clockwise direction! I park the Yagis pointing to the west where they normally resided to minimize wind load.

Please, industrial strength tissues!

73, Bob N5EPA

Re: W7QQ Big 76 GHz Adventure in Current Issue of DUBUS

Bill

RR TU Bob.  Let's not forget Mark N0IO who made two beautiful 78 GHz tranceiving stations.  Stunning aerospace quality design and workmanship. Mark is from Colorado but is one of us at NMVHFS, along with three of his immediate family. Tony has done a nice job bringing this activity to a broad audience. Mark is the NMVHFS subject matter expert for all things microwave.

Let me also note, for those interested in microwave ops and gear that Phoenix, just next door, has a vibrant microwave community.  Many of them are very excited that there is a seed of microwave activity here in New Mexico.  We have 5 stations on 10 GHz and two on 24 GHz and there are more stations under assembly.  There is some donated gear available for anyone in the society. There's enough to seriously knock down the cost and complexity of getting started.  So, if you're one of those whose bucket list includes microwave let someone know you're interested: Myself, Arne N7KA, Duffey KK6MC, Bob K5WO or Art KC5EFM.

Thanks Again Bob es 73
