Don’t know about Es yesterday morning, but most of the meteor ionization is at the same altitude as the E layer, so the distances involved would be about the same.

There is some evidence, although far from conclusive, and lots of conjecture, that the ions in the E layer contributing to Es are the result of meteors. - Duffey

1119 miles according to this:

1800 kM, not too far from the maximum meteor scatter distance of about 2000kM. Very good for your relatively simple setup. - Duffey

New Mexico TechFest -- Presentation lineup, Online registration

Brian Mileshosky

Greetings —

This note is to announce that the presentation, posterboard, and demo lineup for this year’s New Mexico TechFest has been released.  In addition, online registration for the event is now open!

Please visit https://www.rmham.org/wordpress/new-mexico-techfest to view the lineup, read the abstracts, and register to attend TechFest.

The sixth annual New Mexico TechFest, an ARRL-sanctioned operating specialty event sponsored by Rocky Mountain Ham Radio, will take place on Saturday, February 29, 2020.  TechFest features a day of quality presentations and demonstrations provided by some of New Mexico and Colorado’s leading technical hams on a variety of emerging and relevant topics within amateur radio.  Its purpose is to facilitate the sharing of technical knowledge and collaboration within the amateur radio community, and to encourage the discussion of new ideas with one another.

TechFest is open to all interested hams and will occur at the New Mexico Veterans’ Memorial Event Center located at 1100 Louisiana Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.  Admission is $10.

Presentation-related prizes will be drawn throughout the event. Refreshments including coffee, water, and light snacks will be available. Optional lunch, catered by local small business, will be available at an additional cost.

In addition, this year’s TechFest will feature the launch of a pico balloon, intended to travel across the country and possibly the world while carrying a VHF APRS or HF WSPR beacon.  Ham will be able to track the location of this balloon online once launched.

Additional details about the New Mexico TechFest can be found at http://www.rmham.org/wordpress/new-mexico-techfest

Hi Mike,

I thought you may know of someone looking for a nice rig.  I am wanting to sell my 706 as I want to upgrade to the IC-7100.  I will be asking $560.00 for a local buyer.  If I don’t sell it locally I will either list it on QRZ and/or Ebay for more to cover fees and shipping.  It would include the rig, power cable and hand mic.

Please let me know if you happen to know of anyone looking for a good used rig -

If you're not currently signed up for it, there is an "invite" process, although I'm not sure who has to do the inviting.

W9RM - JANUARY VHF test

Keith Morehouse

The ARRL JANUARY VHF TEST is this coming weekend.

I will be around to help with multipliers.  If someone needs/wants a sked with DM58 let me know - you're not gonna work the grid unless you work me !

I will not be up full time - too few people to work.  But I'll be there when it counts or for your sked.  Yes, I will (grudgingly) work you on FT8 - sigh...

50  - 7el x2 + 5el fixed NW and KW
144 - 5WL beam at 50' and 600W
222 - 5WL beam at 70' and 500W
432 - 9WL beam at 75' and KW
900 & 1296 - on the shelf - nobody to work out here
