I could be misremembering but I believe the only transatlantic UHF/VHF non eme contact was done from an island off the coast of south America to an island off the coast to Africa and it was done with one of the microwave bands.

Something is wrong with that map. There has never been a confirmed 2 meter QSO between Europe and the USA, except via moonbounce.

W3DHJ/r ARRL SEP VHF Contest
(My emails to groups.io continue to fail...)
Dis-irregardless of my earlier decision to blow off the ARRL SEP VHF
Contest from now on, I will go out this weekend and putz around in
DM77-78-87-88. A long-time-inactive Colorado rover, KR0VER/r, has
announced his return. And, he is bringing an OP with him that is
brand new to the Rover "experience". So, there will be at least three
(3) (me included) Rovers roaming around eastern Colorado for the
contest. Complaining as much as I have about a precipitous drop in VHF
contest activity in eastern Colorado, I believe it is obligatory for me
to go out and support someone who is "activating" again -- as well as to
support the other intrepid Rover: WB0YM/r.
Saturday Guesstimations:
SAT #1: DM88bb: 1800z~2000z
SAT #2: DM87bw: 2000z~2200z
SAT #3: DM77xw: 2200z~2359z
SAT #4: DM78xa: 0000z~0200+z
Sunday Guesstimations:
SUN #1: DM78xa: 1300z~1615z
SUN #2: DM77xw: 1615z~1930z
SUN #3: DM87cx: 1930z~2245z
SUN #4: DM88bb: 2245z~0200+z
Even if I wish to QRT early each day, I'll be in place until at least
0115Z -- to avoid driving into the sun on the long drive west to the QTH.
Rover Limited:
6M SSB & CW -- 100W + Halo
2M SSB & CW -- 140W + stacked Halos
432 SSB & 446 FM -- 80W and 8 ele (V & H)
A little more description: https://w3dhj.net/vhfrover_plans.php
As of now, the TV Weather Guessers show a bright, sunny, but HOT,
weekend for the rove in S.E. Colorado.
73 ES GL to all,

NMVHF Society Annual meeting at Duke City Hamfest 1600 Saturday September 21, 2019
James Duffey
As a reminder, the NMVHF Society will hold its required annual meeting in conjunction with the Duke City Hamfest; 1600MDT, Saturday September 21, 2019 in the Bosque Room.
One of the items that needs to be considered is election of officers. While the current officers are doing a fine job, we do not want to exclude others from participating, and welcome new blood into the organization’s leadership. We have two elected officers: President and Secretary. At present, W7QQ is president and N7KA is secretary. You can let me or one of the officers know if you are interested in being an officer and we will also entertain nominations from the floor. Similarly, if you have items of business that you would like to bring up, let me know and we will also entertain new items of business from the floor. I don’t want to make this solely about business, so we will have time for a few short, 10 minutes or less, talks about VHF topics. If you want to give such a talk let me know. Short presentations with some pictures of your activity over the past year would be welcomed. See you there! - Duffey KK6MC James Duffey KK6MC Cedar Crest NM

And, not to be political, but money and government services, which WWV/WWVH and NIST are, are political, and the current administration is poorly focused and pernicious in their decisions on how and what to reduce in curtailing government services. A well chosen and well thought out vote in 2020 will help as much or more than a survey in keeping NIST, and WWV/WWVH up and operating. Political rant off. Solar panel on sale at Costco
(Since my email to the NMVHF group will fail...)
For those of you who play Rover in contests, or enjoy portable operation
in "exotic" grid squares AND who are also Costco members, there is a
Coleman 100 W Solar Panel With 8.5 AMP Charge Controller on sale at a
$40 discount == $119.00 at Costco.com only.
The sale runs through August 31.
For me it was $125 with Colo tax and free shipping from NY to Colo.

-or-
https://tinyurl.com/y6gktp8h
It is 2x the power and 1/2 the weight of the Harbor Freight set of
panels I've been using in my Rover outings for the last 5 years.
I will probably swap out the charge controller for some other
selection -- eventually.
Just thought I'd pass out a Heads Up.

I have not taken advantage of Slack. Mike, n5sj
From: nmvhf@groups.io [mailto:nmvhf@groups.io] On Behalf Of Keith Morehouse
Does anyone from the club actually use the dedicated Slack channel ?
Slack is good for real-time interaction but there is no archiving of messages beyond a certain point and, the bad part, you actually have to be monitoring (on-line) to see what's going on. At least messaging sites like .io send you emails of everything. Yes, I know millennials don't 'do' email anymore, which is why Slack has sprung into being. But, why would they be anymore right about messaging then they are about anything else, 'hmmm ?
